When I was trying to get published, I always found it so heartening to read about other authors who had succeeded. Who had come through piles of rejections, to achieve their dream goal.
The disappointment upon receiving another “Thanks but no thanks” would be eased, upon reading about another writer who had experienced the same pangs of self-doubt as they travelled through the very painful submission process.
Talent and luck always play a part in these things – but so does a strong belief in your ability and a gritty determination to succeed.
I have been asked a lot recently, what my advice would be to unpublished authors.
A cliche I know but those three words “Never Give Up” are crucial.
Read as many books as you can lay your hands on too. I don’t think you can be a good writer if you’re not an avid reader. Not only does it help you to develop your own skills, but you learn so much from other authors.
Just stick with it. Keep writing. Keep reading and keep submitting. Polish your work.
All it takes is one “Yes!”
