A local magazine very kindly interviewed me a few months back and this lovely piece is in their latest edition.
Getting publicity is all part and parcel of the modern day author’s remit. In order to sell your books, you have to be active on Social Media and be prepared to juggle your writing with the demands of marketing your latest work.
Nobody said it was going to be easy but it is very heart-warming and rewarding when people are receptive to your tentative approaches for a mention in their Blog/magazine/newspaper etc.
I read all the time about how some ignorant people scoff at those of us when asked what we do for a living. When you say the word “Writer,” a sneer creeps across their face. The common misconception of us lounging around in a smoking jacket, staring off into the middle distance, couldn’t be more wrong!
Not only are modern day writers marketers, they are also knowledgeable in PR; social media and current affairs. One-trick ponies they are not.
So the next time someone asks you what you do, smile confidently and say “Writer!” in ringing tones. You have a lot to be proud of!
